GW2 will have different Races. What about Canthans/Elonians?
Might be an interesting topic to discuss.
We all know our next beloved game 'Guild Wars 2' will have new playable races other than humans, which is really unexpected by many fans of the current game. After viewing countless interviews, previews, and sneak peaks from different sources about the game, I thought to myself... Will there be Canthans/Elonians?
To me, this is a very interesting question I am asking myself, since my first main character is a canthan warrior and I like him a lot. I would like my descendant (You know... The hall of monument feature ) to be a canthan character and not Tyrian. Sure we can make character that looks like canthan characters, but the limited amount of facial features and hairstyle would still be going to be based on an 'european' style and not 'asian'. I don't have any problems making a tyrian born characters if the customisability allows me to make a 'canthan' looking character, but yet... Still... This question still strikes me hard that it is not going to happen. (Since I tried making a canthan looking character in Prophencies, doesn't work well)
GW2 will not have campaigns, which means no new races. So this certainly concerns me.

i think they mean races like Charr, Human, Sylvari, Norn, etc...(basically races that dont use the human form). Not races like African, Caucasion or Asian....

What I am most concerned is whether the 'Human race' will have the ability to create... say... Asian, Caucasion, African through their customizability options. I'm not really keen on other races except for Sylvari.

Why is this even remotely a concern when the game is two years away?

They should also include old and fat people. Haven't seen those around in GW.

Hmmmmmm I'm not sure... I've seen a few fat warriors... and the grey hair is a bit ageing on characters.
Humans have been pushed to the edge of exsitinction by the rise of other races like the charr and unannounced races. So who knows if the Canthans and Elonians are even around anymore.

With the word of GW:EN dealing primarily with Tyria, I too have become concerned with the loss of Canthans and Elonans. I find the cultures and peoples and environments of Cantha and Elona far more interesting than Tyria.
I don't think that I have to worry all too much about GW:EN considering they said you have to own "one" of the three campaigns to play GW:EN (not just Prophecies).
GW2, however, does concern me. I look forward to discovering what happens to all three continents that we have grown to know as the world of Guild Wars (no pun intended). I think it would be most wise to allow Human characters to choose between Elonan, Canthan or Tyrian descent in the beginning of character creation. Of course, like GW1, this could be a deciding factor that provides us with our options for face skins, hair options, etc...
After all, we can't just pretend the Elonans and Canthans never existed! Killing off these ethnicities would break the wonderful diversity that GW offered its players; this would also seem like a cop-out (lazy developers anyone?).

Because the longer we wait to address this concern, the less time aNet has to consider its inclusion (have they not already). The sooner concerns are discussed and addressed the better.

I'm not sure about the elonians, but I am pretty sure that Canthan has their own main land to live on. It is not connected to Tyria mainland in anyway.

Like your humor, but we are not discussing about old/fat people right now.
Expansion adds content, this does not necessarily mean that they will add new human race. Look at EoTN as an example. Though I can be wrong... Lets hope for the best.

That is why I am writing this. Thank you for understanding. I, too, share the same thought as you.

Very true, but when we left cantha there was still plagued people and the population and imperial guard had been ravaged by the event and attack.
The Kurzicks and Luxons continue to fight so an unseen attack by a new race from the south of the mainland could easily catch them off guard.
There's just no knowing any facts yet, other than the official statements regarding GW2 and the fact the human populace will be reduced by the rise of new races.

I'm sure GW2 will have much more customization options than what we have in GW now. Maybe even something like Sims 2 face creations system? o_O

Wait! What's the name of the world GW is set in? Earth 2, Anetron or was it call Tyria as well?

Tyria. Um, was that sarcasm? My bad.
Maybe the tunnels that the Asurans move about in go under the sea all the way to Cantha!
Edit: Oh lordy. From wiki:
Quote:
The Depths of Tyria are a network of caves which run underneath and between the three known continents of the world of Tyria.
|
Perhaps the same tunnels show up in GW2, which would mean you should be able to create a char "from" there.

Hm... "Takuna Rhaknas moved to Tyria and got caught in a time-trap-thingamajig. He woke up a hundred years later." Sorted... Alternatively, he could have left a legacy that someone of like-heart-and-mindedness would be able to pick up.
That sorts out the whole RP side of it. After all, it's a long time.
Still, yes, the faces would all still be European... I hope we get a wide variety. In fact, I hope we get a huge variety and masses of options. Rather than just faces, how about eyes, mouth, etc. also? I hate it when I find a character that has the same face as me. That's one reason I chose a face that looked most like mine rather than the best-looking one.

Canthans and Elonians are humans... they are not a "race". Humans will be playable along with the new races.

Guess we'll have to wait and see. Maybe when you select to be the Human race, there'll be sub-races (not that they're different) of Canthan, Elonian and Tyrian. That, or there will just be numerous faces to pick from and you can pretend to be Elonian.

It's still related to the same idea - deeper character customization.
Also, good point, RTS. That's why I mentioned that tidbit next to subraces.

This is a concern that has been brought up before: that the availability of multiple races will be used as an excuse for having only a tiny number of character customization options, most of which look like ass, leading to clones everywhere.

I beg to differ! Nightfall introduced fat and old heroes. Norgu the Mesmer is fat and has never met a buffet table he didn't like. Then we have Dunkoro who is like 50+ with graying hair (well, what little hair he has).

New game = new opportunity for character customization.
I like threads like this because they remind Anet that this is a concern to many players. One of the most important parts of a RPG is the ability to make characters we like.
The more customization, the better.

We already know there are tunnels leading from Tyria to Canthan the dredge explain that they used those tunnels while being chased by Stone Summit.
So just like Nightfall it looks as if they might have build EoTN off of one line in one of the campaigns.
